Windows Phone 7 “sells” 1.5 Million Units in Six Weeks, 4000 Apps in Store

Dec 21

1.5 Million Windows Phone 7 phones have been sold, but that doesn't mean they are in the hands of consumers. This number includes units "stocked by mobile operators and retailers on their way to customers". Call me crazy, but I still think Windows Phone 7 will be a success (and this coming from a complete Apple Nerd). On the other hand, I find Android to be a terribly flawed ecosystem with too many flavors and not enough standards to support a cohesive experience from handset to handset.

Windows Phone 7, while still missing standard features of iOS and Android, could become a real contender given a major update or two. If Microsoft truly believes in this Mobile OS (which is a big IF in my mind when it comes to recent Microsoft support of its own technologies), and grinds it out much in the same way they did in the console space with the XBox, I think RIM and Android will have a real run for their money. With Apple? Not so much.

Microsoft still rules the Enterprise, and true integration with Exchange makes it an easy sell for IT departments that frown on outside technology.

Microsoft has moxy. They built a funky user interface that completely bucks the trend of current uber-glossed mobile OSes. And its actually quite intuitive once you get used to the difference.

The latest rumor states that Nokia will adopt Windows Phone 7. This, along with Microsoft's foothold in the corporate world will create some big time competition for the other OS developers. Has Microsoft finally built a mobile OS worthy of being a contender? Really!
