We have uncovered a device that is so powerful, so sexy, so portable, so easy to use, that it will change the way UX for mobile is done forever!! Step right up to see this incredible device and behold it's power and simplicity. Ladies and gentlemen I give you... a Moleskine reporter notebook and a Uni-ball Micro pen!

Notebook
OK. It may not be the most technologically advanced gadget out there, but it sure does hit the mark on many of the needs we have when working with mobile experience design.

1 - Ultra Portable

This little sidekick fits perfectly into your back or shirt pocket, a purse, or a backpack for ideation on the go. From the Moleskine.com site:

Moleskine® is a brand that encompasses a family of nomadic objects: notebooks, diaries, journals, bags, writing instruments and reading accessories, dedicated to our mobile identity. Flexible and brilliantly simple tools for use both in everyday and extraordinary circumstances, ultimately becoming an integral part of our personality.

"A family of nomadic objects"... sounds like a perfect fit for the designer on the go!

2 - Analog for Digital

We always start our digital ideations in an analog fashion; good old pen and paper! By sketching on paper first, we're able to ideate through many ideas incredibly fast. It allows our creativity to flow faster and easier. We're able to grow ideas or trim bad ones without a lot of investment in time or effort. Efficient and quick sketching is the foundation to every successful project our team has delivered. By being detached from the computer, we're able to concept ideas without being hindered by the tooling. Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks are amazing tools that we use every day, but sometimes we get mired in the options and features available within the applications. There are no rules to ones ability to draw or sketch, just a requirement that a concept be communicated and captured.

A nice bonus feature is the aspect ratio of these small Moleskines. They are 3.5" x 5.5" in size which is close enough to 320 x 640 for effective sketching of mobile designs. The extra space can be used for small notes and thoughts on the interactions to take place within your idea.

3 - Options Galore!

Thankfully, the folks that revived Moleskine from the ashes, decided to extend the product line to many shapes, sizes, and paper styles. They also provide a means to customize the cover of the notebooks in a co-branded style. We have a custom blind-emboss on the cover and a custom paper wrap that is used on our reporter notebooks that we share with our clients. It makes for a nice gift that people actually appreciate and use. Check out the Moleskine.com website for details on the options available and start designing your next mobile masterpiece!
