New Era Cap is the largest sports-licensed headwear company in the world. Since 1920, the family-owned, privately held company has grown to become America's leading manufacturer of baseball caps.
The company has an exclusive license with Major League Baseball as the official supplier of caps to all baseball players in the major and minor leagues. Other partnerships include the NBA, NHL and many major colleges.
Today, the company has 1,300 employees in five locations around the country, making 15 million caps every year.
Problem
New Era Cap's human resources department needed a better way to conduct employee reviews. With its large employee population so geographically dispersed, the task was quite daunting. Reviews often took days to complete and were very hard to manage. There were also problems analyzing the data once it was collected.
New Era Cap needed better solution and so turned to Universal Mind for help developing a new "Employee Scorecard".
Solution
After seeing a proof of concept, New Era Cap agreed that a Flex/ColdFusion solution would be a perfect fit — combining the usability benefits of Flex with the power and rich feature set of ColdFusion.
Universal Mind developed Employee Scorecard working closely with New Era Cap's human resources department.
Results
Employees greeted the new scorecard with great enthusiasm. Scorecards were completed in record time and results was readily available. The review process was now reduced to minutes instead of hours. The interface was intuitive and users felt comfortable with the application from the start.
